Class Description
The class will be an introduction to ballet, beginning with the five basic positions and quickly progressing into barre exercises and center work. Curriculum will follow a simple classical ballet structure and include port de bra, balances, strengthening exercises, musicality and coordination. Participants will need a chair, or something to hold on to for balance, and a clear space to dance! About the teaching artist: Kristina has enjoyed teaching and choreographing for students of all ages for over fifteen years at many local studios in Columbus, Cincinnati and Rhode Island. In addition, she has been an instructor with the Joffrey South, Joffrey Colorado Springs and Joffrey Heartland Summer Intensive programs, and loves teaching ballet to the Ohio State Dance Team- Go Bucks! Kristina danced professionally with the Tulsa Ballet II, Louisville Ballet, Festival Ballet Providence, and Columbus Dance Theatre and has been a guest artist with the Dayton Ballet and Kentucky Ballet Theater. She has had the opportunity to perform in works by George Balanchine, Val Caniparoli, Ma Cong, Viktor Plotnikov, Lila York and many others.Kristina has an MFA from the Department of Dance and a graduate minor in college teaching from The Ohio State University. At OSU she was a Graduate Teaching Associate and the recipient of an Ohio State University Fellowship. Kristina graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati with a BFA in ballet, where she studied on scholarship. At CCM she had the opportunity to perform many lead roles including Nikiya in La Bayadere and the Black Swan in Swan Lake. She has received a Columbus Dances Fellowship award for choreography and her work has been presented at BalletMet Academy and Trainee Program, Columbus Dance Theatre, the Columbus Arts Festival and the TEDx Ohio State University 2016 event. Kristina resides in Dublin with her husband and daughter.
